A fine of more than £2,422 was given to a Bacup man found guilty of leaving waste outside his house.
Nicholas Turner, of Springfield Avenue, Bacup, was found guilty of failing to remove bags of rubbish, furniture and wood from outside his home, which had the potential to attract rats and vermin, and also of failing to take all necessary action to prevent new accumulations of rubbish between 25th October 2018 and 20th December 2018.

The Great British Spring Clean might be done for another year but the memories of Rossendale residents’ contributions remain fresh.
The national initiative, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, took place from March 22- April 23 across the UK and challenged people to join forces with community organisations, businesses and the Council to collect and safely dispose of litter from Rossendale’s streets and parks, recycling as much as possible.

Moorlands play area is undergoing a £130,000 transformation.
The play area in Stubbylee Park will include fantastic new equipment including a jungle climber, five-way swing, scooter roundabout, music cottage, wizard’s hideaway and a cradle seat swing.
Rossendale Borough Council worked with Bacup Pride to secure £30,000 from Lancashire Environment Fund and £80,000 from Viridor for the project.

A local Haslingden company has won a prestigious Queen’s Award for enterprise.
Firesafe Fire Rated Ductwork Limited picked up the award for outstanding continuous growth in overseas sales over the last six years.

From this week (w/c Monday, May 13), text reminders sent out by Rossendale Council about missed council tax payments are changing.
The new messages will be longer, more detailed and may be sent as voice messages as well as text or email.
The messages are an additional step in advance of having to issue a statutory ‘red letter’ reminder.

Bounce into the bank holiday with an afternoon out at the Mayor of Rossendale’s charity family fun day this weekend.
Taking place on Sunday, May 5th from 12-4pm at the South Shore playing fields at St Mary’s Community Sports Club, the event promises fun for all the family.
Activities will include a children’s fancy dress competition, cowboy camp, bouncy castle, raffle, lucky dip and a veteran’s live museum.

Residents across Pennine Lancashire are being asked to exercise their fingers and take part in a new online survey.
As well as helping shape how up to £10m of Sport England is spent locally, participants will be in the running for one of 10 £50 Amazon vouchers.

The European Parliament Elections which will take place on Thursday, May 23.
More than five million people across North West England, including Rossendale, will have the opportunity to vote in these elections to select the region’s eight Members of the European Parliament (MEPs.)
Verification, or official checking, of the votes will take place on Friday 24 May and the count and results announcement will take place on Sunday 26 May after polls close across Europe.

Over the past few days, we have had a few queries from residents and the local media about travellers who stopped at Futures Park recently. We have also have been asked for an update on the emerging local plan and the gypsy and traveller transit site.
After the travellers moved off site a full clean-up operation was organised for Thursday, April 11 as per our normal processes.

Do you want to join in the country’s biggest-ever spring clean and help make Rossendale tidy?
Volunteers are being sought to blitz Bacup in a community clean-up as part of the Great British Spring Clean.
Taking place this Wednesday, April 17 from 10am-1pm the clean-up and planting day will see volunteers tackle the area from Alma Road to Industrial Street.
