Pioneering scheme to get people back into work hailed a success

A pioneering Rossendale project that has helped 25 people back into work could become a blueprint for a Lancashire-wide scheme.

Plans are now being drawn up that could see Rossendale Works being replicated in other boroughs.

Employability Officer Paul Becouarn is employed by Active Lancashire and delivers the project on behalf of Rossendale Council.

Council announces Rawtenstall market partnership plans

Rossendale Council has announced plans for an exciting partnership to rejuvenate Rawtenstall market.

In papers published today, the Council has outlined plans which will see the owners of the very successful Clog Market take on the management of Rawtenstall Market.

Speaking about the announcement, Councillor Alyson Barnes, leader of the Council, said:

“We want to see all our markets be vibrant, colourful and bustling, venues that bring in local people as well as shoppers from far and wide.

Civic Pride latest blog: Tackling river rubbish

The first Sunday in March saw an enthusiastic team of Civic Pride volunteers donning wellies, waders and hi vis jackets to remove some of the detritus that had been thrown into the Rivers Irwell and Limey Water where they meet to the side of B&M Bargains in Rawtenstall.

In addition to five shopping trollies, a chair and lots of other items, 12 bags were also filled with smaller items.

Council statement on parking in Rawtenstall

We are aware of rumours circulating on social media that Rossendale Council has put together a secret plan for parking in Rawtenstall. We wanted to address those rumours.

No secret plan for parking has been put together. As our leader Councillor Alyson Barnes said in February, we are developing a broader parking strategy, which will be shaped and influenced by a cross party working group and which will be undertaken in consultation with traders groups and the community partnership.

Council welcomes leisure partnership announcement

Rossendale Council has welcomed news that Rossendale Leisure Trust and Community Leisure Association of Whitworth have agreed a new partnership.

Councillor Alyson Barnes, leader of the Council, said:

“We welcome this announcement and look forward to continue to work with both organisations. We will continue to support the partnership by providing back office assistance such as payroll, IT and transaction services.”

Ceremony marks progress on bus station

Partners signed the steel of the new Rawtenstall bus station to mark progress on the multi-million pound development.

Representatives from Rossendale Council, developers Barnfield and Transdev each took turns to leave goodwill messages on the frame of the new bus station.

Transdev has committed to using the new bus station.

Work on the station, funded by the Council, Lancashire County Council and the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership, is due to finish in early summer.

Councillors agree Haslingden match funding

Rossendale Council has agreed to ring fence £160,000 to support Haslingden town centre as a fresh bid for funding is prepared.

Working with the recently re-established Haslingden Taskforce, the Council is preparing a bid for Heritage Funding.

A bid was made last year but while unsuccessful, the Council received many positive comments and has been encouraged to submit a further one this year.
