Change your life and download the Sugar Smart app today

Local health commissioners, NHS East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and NHS Blackburn with Darwen CCG, are urging local residents to sign up for a free NHS app which tells them the sugar content of food and drink.

The Sugar Smart app, part of the national Change4Life campaign, has been launched by Public Health England (PHE) in a bid to combat obesity and encourage families to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Travellers vacate LCC land near Futures Park

Rossendale Council has issued the following update:

The travellers moved off site on Tuesday, January 15th due to impending legal action and a full clean-up operation has now been organised.

They have moved to private land elsewhere in the borough and we have been in touch with the landowners to make them aware and offer advice and assistance.

New chance for groups to apply for Rossendale Community Fund

Local organisations are invited to apply for a grant of up to £750 from the Fund before the deadline of February 22nd.

The Rossendale Community Fund was created by Rossendale Borough Council in partnership with the Community Foundation for Lancashire to offer grants to support projects that help families, children and young people engage in community activities and learning.

Statement on Tesco Rawtenstall

Rossendale Council has been working with Department of Works and Pensions and in contact with Tesco since news broke that the Rawtenstall store was closing and to be replaced by a Jack’s.

The store is due to close on January 13 with 175 jobs affected.

Councillor Alyson Barnes, leader of the Council, said:

“It was very sad that Tesco will be closing at the end of this week.

Bacup THI update from the interim chair

Happy New Year everyone. I hope everyone had a safe and peaceful start to 2019.

I am delighted to see a new business has moved into the town as a result of the improvements brought about by the THI funding . The funding has made a real difference to the area and I was really pleased to see lots of positive comments to the before and after pictures our brilliant project officer released on the THI’s Facebook page.

THI Chair welcomes new business to Bacup

After eight months of renovation a historic Bacup building has been given a new lease of life with the opening of Valley Denture Clinic.

Weir residents Kevin and Janet Abbott had been trading in Littleborough, but when they saw the improvements being made to the town centre as part of Bacup Townscape Heritage Initiative, they knew the town was on the up and decided to look for premises nearer to home.

Blog: a new volunteer for Civic Pride

Happy New Year.

Civic Pride are constantly recruiting new volunteers and consequently we keep a range of hi-vis vests and jackets available in a range of sizes but when Colin joined we had to rethink our strategy.  Colin is the border collie, a rescue dog who won’t let owner Mike (holding the lead) out his sight and is a regular addition to the Thursday morning team sessions!

New team cracks down on litter louts

People dropping litter, flytipping and dog fouling in Rossendale have been hit by fines following the introduction of a specialist enforcement team.

The on-the spot-fines have been issued by District Enforcement, which started a 12-month trial across Rossendale on December 3rd.

Dedicated officers will patrol the borough’s streets and parks seven days a week, targeting hot-spots identified by the Council.

The end of the year is approaching so I wanted to reflect on the last year and also look forward to 2019.

In many ways, it’s been a tough year for the Council but we have achieved a lot and I hope many people agree with me that the borough is in a better shape than it was at the start of the year.

Shop owner fined over shutters

A business owner has been ordered to pay £405 following a row over shop shutters.

Syeda Monzu Uddin, owner of Haslingden Food Store, appeared at Burnley Magistrates Court charged with non-compliance with an Enforcement Notice and was fined £200 with costs of £175 and a victim surcharge of £30.

Action was taken by Rossendale Council in August to remove roller shutters from the Haslingden Food Store after the owner did not comply with an order to take the shutters down.
