Be scary but safe this Halloween and Bonfire Night by following fire safety advice.
It’s the time of year for the spooky celebrations and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) are sharing tips in the lead up to two of the biggest nights in the Autumnal calendar.
These two dates are renowned for big events, large groups of people being outside and lots of fun.

A unique project that tackles employability barriers has been short-listed for a prestigious award.
In just six months, Rossendale Works has led to 16 people finding work, 19 more on employer placements and a further 30 getting mentally and physically fitter through Active Lancashire activities.
On November 23, at the Lancashire Sports Awards at the Blackpool Hotel and Conference Centre, Rossendale Works Employability Project is one of five finalists in the Project of the Year category.

A stunning tapestry has created a celebration of the River Irwell and left a lasting legacy of Bacup’s heritage work.
Each of the four pieces weaves together the story of the River Irwell with the history of the Bacup area.
Community Artist Ruth Evans was commissioned to hold a series of workshops to empower local people to create art work which she then combined into the panels.

Work is due to take place overnight to complete the final stages of a scheme to upgrade the centre of Bacup with smart new paving and improved pedestrian crossing facilities.
Some roads around St James Square will be closed to allow them to be resurfaced, and new lines to be painted.

Rossendale Council has welcomed news that the Government is looking at overhauling national standards for taxi drivers in a move to improve passenger safety.
The news comes via a new publication that is the result of a Government-backed review into the industry.
It makes 34 recommendations across a wide range of areas including an urgent review of legislation and introduction of a national minimum standard for taxi licensing.

It’s taken two years and four hardworking Civic Pride (Rossendale) volunteers – and now Trickett’s Memorial Ground in Waterfoot is ready for Remembrance Day.
Brambles cleared, areas newly planted and a huge hanging planter in the centre of the main lawn started to attract the attention of passers-by in the first few months.

This week is Hate Crime Awareness Week, a week dedicated to raise awareness of hate crime.
To mark the HCAW, the leader of the Council, Councillor Alyson Barnes, said:
“Hate crimes are any crimes that are targeted at a person because of hostility or prejudice towards that person’s disability, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation or gender identity
“It is appalling and it can destroy lives.

Rossendale Council officer, Heather Mullins, is tasked with bringing empty properties back into use in the borough.
Her work is part of the Council’s vision to ensure that the people of Rossendale have access to decent affordable housing that enables a good quality of life.
And as the national Empty Homes Week 2018 continues, Heather is urging more landlords and property owners to use the Council’s services to help bring empty properties back into use.

A 12-month trial to tackle people who blight the borough has been approved.
This will see private enforcement officers from the firm District Enforcement issuing on-the-spot fines for littering, dog fouling and flytipping.
Two dedicated officers will patrol the borough’s streets and parks seven days a week, targeting hot-spots identified by the council.

Rossendale Council, working in partnership with Lancashire County Council, has commissioned the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) consultants to explore the potential for rail connections to the borough.
The study will look at the early strategic case for investment for the Rawtenstall to Manchester corridor. This would involve tram-trains, accessing the Metrolink network at Buckley Wells (Bury) or alternatively using a heavy rail curve at Castleton.
