In July members of the Bacup THI Board, Councillor Jackie Oakes, Acting Chair, and Councillor Jimmy Eaton wrote a letter to Lancashire County Council regarding the Coronation fountain in Bacup.
The THI Board was seeking to confirm whether LCC would consider taking responsibility for annual maintenance costs if funding could be raised for the restoration of the fountain.

Earlier this week, Rossendale Council issued a statement on reports of anti-social driving in Rawtenstall and around other areas of Rossendale.
Council Leader Alyson Barnes has now received a full briefing from Insp Dave Clarke, of Lancashire Police, about the issue and actions the Police are planning to take in response.

A Rossendale councillor will be sleeping outside as part of a charity event to raise awareness of homelessness.
Councillor Steve Hughes, Chair of Rossendale Council’s Licensing Committee, will be taking part in the CEO Sleepout on Monday, October 15 in a bid to raise money for charities helping in the fight against homelessness and poverty.

Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of Rossendale Council, has issued the following statement after residents raised concerns around people racing cars in Rawtenstall:
We have been made aware by concerned residents about an issue in Rawtenstall of people racing cars very late and loudly through the town centre, which is obviously highly dangerous and completely unacceptable.

People are being warned to be careful when dealing with businesses selling goods or services on the doorstep following reports of cold callers operating in the area.
While some businesses which operate by cold calling are legitimate, others are not.
Trading Standards services across the country see too many reports from victims who have been ripped off by rogue doorstep callers.

Following requests from residents Rossendale Council has published a map of the proposed allocation of a stopover site for Travellers at Futures Park in Bacup.

The Leader of Rossendale Council, Councillor Alyson Barnes, has this week written to the Government to seek clarification on the legislation requiring all Councils to identify what traveller sites are needed across Local Authority areas, as part of the production of a Local Plan.
The request follows public comments made by Jake Berry MP – Minister of State for the Northern Powerhouse that: “any formal transit provision for Gypsy/Travellers in Rossendale is unnecessary” and that the Council should “scrap their plans for such a site.”

Two taxi operators have been fined in separate cases for failing to comply with notices to return expired Hackney Carriage vehicle plates to Rossendale Council.
Yorkshire Hire Limited and Muhammed Nabeel Ahmed were sentenced at Burnley Magistrates Court on July 26th.
The offences occurred earlier this year under section 58 (1) of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 which covers the return of identification plate or disc on revocation or expiry of licence.
