Rossendale Council has today issued the following statement:
We are aware of the intense public debate being generated around the proposed allocation of a stopover site for Travellers at Futures Park in Bacup, as instructed by the Government as part of our Local Plan.
We are committed to being transparent and working with the public on this with a full 6-week public consultation scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 23rd – which we will fully publicise.

Dragons’ Den star Piers Linney will return to the place which “moulded” him to officially launch an initiative to promote Rossendale as an attractive location for businesses.
The entrepreneur, who attended Fearns School in Bacup, began his career delivering newspapers in the borough.
He is now a director at the Government-owned British Business Bank, which has invested billions in small and medium-sized enterprises in the UK, and champions small businesses.

People in Rossendale are being urged to visit their doctor if they spot blood in their pee.
Public Health England has launched the new Be Clear on Cancer campaign in Lancashire to highlight blood in pee as a key symptom of bladder and kidney cancers.
The campaign encourages everyone to “look before they flush” and visit their GP without delay if they notice blood in their pee, even if it’s just once as blood may not appear every time.

The council has welcomed a £10,000 lottery grant to help transform a former church in the heart of Bacup into a heritage, arts and cultural centre.
Local heritage charity CAST has secured the funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to breathe new life into St John the Evangelist Church, Burnley Road.

There will be a feast of delights for food lovers at Haslingden Market on Saturday (July 28).
Grab a Bite, Rossendale’s first street food festival, takes place from 11am to 3pm.
It has been supported by Rossendale Council and attractions include cookery demonstrations, food tasting and samples, curry making, children’s entertainment and henna and face painting.

A state of the art spa is set to open in Rossendale as part of Rawtenstall’s multi-million pound regeneration.
Rossendale Council has unveiled its preferred option for phase two of the Spinning Point development, as well as outlining its future vision for the town centre.
The leisure-driven development on the former Valley Centre site will include:
- A spa
- An 80 bedroom hotel with restaurant
- A number of two bedroom apartments
- A selection of retail/food and beverage units intended to be a good mixture of local independent shops and national chains.

Builders have moved on site at Ski Rossendale this week as the next phase of the Rawtenstall-based outdoor ski centre’s exciting redevelopment plans get underway.
As part of the latest work the facility’s existing reception, toilets and ski hire will be demolished and replaced with a purpose-built ski centre building which will provide an improved 35-seat café/bistro and elevated outdoor viewing area with further seating available.

A charity which has been honoured by the Queen has risen to the challenge of keeping Rawtenstall looking blooming marvellous during the heatwave.
Civic Pride (Rossendale) has bought a submersible pump to draw water from Limey Water at Rawtenstall to help keep the town’s floral displays in tip top condition.
Rawtenstall’s award-winning community gardens and hanging baskets are planted and maintained by the charity which is made up entirely of volunteers.

A retired Rossendale Chair of Governors was presented with a Roll of Honour Special Achievement Award at Rossendale Council’s main Council Meeting recently.
Peter Sweetmore retired earlier this year after 25 years of service to Tor View Community Special School in Haslingden where he was Chairman of Governors and also Chairman of The View Trust.

Councillor Jackie Oakes, Acting Chair Bacup THI Board, and Councillor Jimmy Eaton have today issued this letter to Lancashire County Council:
You will be aware of the much anticipated public realm and highways works that have now commenced in Bacup. This has brought renewed focus on the former fountain which is at the centre of the town centre and whether this could be restored to be a water feature or alternatively enhanced with smart lighting to give a similar appearance to water.
