Jobs success for dad after volunteering on council scheme

A council employment programme has secured its first success with Shane Goodier securing a full-time job after working with a business as a volunteer.

Father-of-five Shane, 39, from Bacup, was introduced to Rossendale Borough Council’s Employability Officer Paul Becouaran on one of his visits to the JobCentre. He would walk from Bacup to Rawtenstall to sign on.

A feature on the Spinning Point development appears on Place North West, the news website for property and regeneration professionals in the region.

Spinning Point includes the demolition of the former police station, the restoration of the town hall and a new bus station.

Electoral Register – Annual Canvass 2018

Don’t lose your voice, look out for your household enquiry form in the next couple of weeks.

Rossendale residents will soon be receiving their annual household enquiry form which ensures that Rossendale Borough Council can keep the electoral register up to date and identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.

Careers fair attracts hundreds

Hundreds of people attended an event to showcase the range of jobs and careers in the borough.

The day-long Rossendale Works skills and employability fair was hailed a success with 57 businesses and organisations setting up stalls.

It was organised by Rossendale Council with careers organisation Inspira, local schools and the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) skills and employment hub.

Project wins award for “outstanding” work to tackle loneliness

A project to tackle loneliness in innovative ways in Rossendale has been honoured.

Living Well Living Better received an award for outstanding locality work at the recent East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group Awards.

Rossendale Council was chosen by the Government in 2016 to receive funding to pilot new ways of improving the health and wellbeing of local communities.

Local Plan update

Councillors have agreed for the latest draft of its 15 year local plan to go out to consultation.

The Council approved the report which gives permission to start the consultation but made two amendments.

The recommendations added to the report before it was given the green light were:

  • That this Council ask the Planning Inspector to give full and due consideration to the local community plan in relation to Edenfield.

Sun shines on Whitworth funday

There was plenty of fun in the sun at the annual Whitworth Family Funday.

Attractions at the Riverside car park included funfair rides and games, a rodeo bull, ice cream and candy floss.

Dancers from Samba Dance and Fitness entertained visitors and there was range of fundraising and craft stalls.

The planned dog show was cancelled because of the heat but RRG Toyota Rochdale still brought along an Aygo car covered in paw prints.

Update on travel problems in Bacup

Lancashire County Council has issued an update following yesterday’s (July 10) travel delays in the Bacup roadworks.

A spokesman for the county council said:

One of our highways engineers went to the site as soon as we were aware of the problems and worked with the contractor to scale back the traffic management to allow traffic to flow more freely.

Northern Grip hailed a success

Northern Grip, a premier mountain biking festival which attracts hundreds of people from across the country to the borough, has been hailed a huge success.

Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council, attended the festival with fellow Cabinet member Councillor Jackie Oakes.

Statement about disruption caused by roadworks in Bacup

Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of Rossendale Council, said:

It is disappointing that drivers have suffered such delays and disruption, and we will be raising the issue with Lancashire County Council.

These roadworks are a necessary part of our £2 million Townscape Heritage Initiative to improve Bacup town centre for residents, businesses and visitors.
