Bacup celebrated the official opening of the Britannia Greenway on Saturday (July 7), part of a major new cycling and walking route being developed to link areas throughout East Lancashire.
Local people gathered to process along the 1km route from New Line Picnic Site on their bikes, horses, scooters and on foot following a ribbon cutting.

Businesses with up to 250 employees could receive a discount of up to 100 per cent on their annual rates to help create more jobs in the borough
Rossendale Council has introduced a new three-year relief scheme for National Non-Domestic Rates – what people know as businesses rates – for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

People who are looking for a job or want to improve their prospects can attend an employability and skills fair organised by Rossendale Council.
They will be able to speak to around 50 local companies and voluntary organisations at the Rossendale Works event on Tuesday (July 10).
The event at The Adrenaline Centre, Haslingden, is open to the public from 2pm to 5pm.

Congratulations to pupils from Fearns Community Sports College whose school newspaper has been named the best in the UK.
Fearns Chat, which is written and designed by pupils, also won the award for the best newspaper front page at the national Shine School Media Awards.
The 16-page newspaper has been produced by the Stacksteads school since 2009.

A fun event is being held in Bacup to celebrate the opening of the Britannia Greenway, part of a major new cycling and walking route being developed to link areas throughout East Lancashire.
It marks the completion of the first section of the Valley of Stone route, one of four routes which make up the East Lancashire Strategic Cycleway project.

New online ‘how to’ guides have been published to give tenants, landlords and leaseholders in Rossendale all the information they need to safely rent or lease a property.
The ‘how to’ series is published on the Government website and comprises various checklists describing how to let, how to lease, how to rent and how to rent a safe home.

Groups and individuals doing outstanding work to tackle loneliness and isolation in Rossendale were honoured at an awards ceremony.
A community cafe, a luncheon club, a toddler group and community greenhouses were among those recognised at the Living Well Living Better Awards at the Riverside Centre, Whitworth.
Honours were handed out in four categories: most innovative project of the year, volunteer of the year, group/organisation of the year and lasting contribution.

A proposal has been unveiled to create a conservation area in Haslingden town centre which could unlock regeneration funding.
The Haslingden Conservation Area would roughly form a corridor along Manchester Road, Blackburn Road, Helmshore Road, Deardengate and Church Street.
The proposal will go before Rossendale Council’s cabinet committee on July 4 for approval.

Work will start in July to enhance the centre of Bacup. Smart new paving and improved pedestrian facilities are planned as part of the next phase of the Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) gets underway.
It will see pavements in and around St James Square upgraded with high-quality York stone, roads resurfaced and three new zebra crossings installed.
