Stubbylee Park scoops Tesco Bags of Help funding for garden restoration

Stubbylee Park in Bacup is one of the latest groups to have made a successful bid to bag a cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to manage its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 10p bag levy – being awarded to local community projects, every 2 months.

Top award for Rossendale housing development

A housing development on the site of a former mill in Cowpe has been crowned the best in the region.

Kearns Village was named the best small new housing development at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) North West Building Excellence Awards.

More than 600 people attended the ceremony to recognise technical excellence in building at Lancashire Country Cricket Club.

Employability fair for pupils and public

Businesses are invited to showcase their job and career opportunities to potential employees – now and future – at the Rossendale Works employability and skills fair.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend the event, on Tuesday 10 July, at the Adrenaline sports centre in Helmshore Road, Haslingden.

More than 1,000 pupils aged 14 to 16 from Rossendale’s seven secondary schools will be there between 9am and 2pm to learn about the wide variety of possible careers in the Valley and the qualifications they will need to pursue them.

Council leader praises volunteers and emergency services

The Leader of Rossendale Council has paid tribute to the emergency services and volunteers who worked tirelessly to deal with the Haslingden fire on Tuesday (May 15).

Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council, said:

“We worked very closely with Lancashire Fire and Rescue, the police and Lancashire County Council  to deal with the Haslingden fire and its aftermath.

Council statement regarding fire in Haslingden

Rossendale Council is working with Lancashire County Council, Lancashire Police and other agencies following a fire at the former FAB Furniture Shop at the end of Beaconsfield Street in Haslingden.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue were called to the building at 10.45pm

Five properties had to be vacated while firefighters tackled the blaze, there were no injuries.

Update on Haslingden fire

Rossendale Council continues to support residents affected by last night’s fire as well as working with other agencies.

Arrangements have been made for all residents who had to leave their homes to go to Haslingden Community Link for rest and refreshments.

The fire gutted the building and contractors have been arranged to clear up the debris and also demolish the gable end to make the area safe.
