Rossendale Borough Council has granted planning permission for Phase two of the Spinning Point development.
A full planning application, for the redevelopment of the former Valley Centre site, was submitted by Rossendale Borough Council and Barnfield Investment Properties in December 2017.
Significant community consultation has taken place since December, with members of the public encouraged to view and comment on the proposals during three public information events, a’Facebook Live’ consultation; and presentations to local groups, Rawtenstall Chamber of Commerce and Rossendale Civic Trust.

Following consultation under the Local Plan in 2017 Haslingden, which was one of 4 proposed new Conservation Areas for Rossendale, has now been progressed.
The proposed conservation area focuses around the historic core of Haslingden and is intended to protect this area of special architectural and historic interest and ensure positive future management.

A longstanding Easter tradition will be revived again this weekend as the Britannia Coconutters come out to play in Rossendale.
People from the valley and beyond are expected to line the streets as the famous ‘folk dance’ troupe visit 25 separate locations around Rossendale on East Saturday, March 31 accompanied by members of Stacksteads silver band.

A new project from Rossendale Council and partners will see local unemployed people given the opportunity to find a pathway back to work through volunteering or taking part in regular sporting activities.
‘Rossendale Works’ will see the Council working with local partners Active Lancashire (previously Lancashire Sport) and the Department for Work and Pensions to target those over 18s in receipt of out of works benefits or those who are currently excluded from the jobs market.

Landlords in Rossendale will now have to meet minimum criteria around energy efficiency before they can rent properties, as a result of new rules that come into force next week.
From April 1, all rented homes in England and Wales must have a minimum Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E.

Civic Pride’s Roger Grimshaw updates on the Great British Spring Clean.
Good things come to those who wait, they say! The Beast from the East and its offspring may have delayed Civic Pride’s plans but they certainly didn’t stop the Great British Spring Clean!
Last Saturday saw 12 Civic Pride volunteers and 3 McDonalds staff fan out across Rawtenstall to clear 47 bags of rubbish plus other larger detritus including a car tyre, a freezer and even a crutch!

Dragon Den’s Hilary Devey has praised Rossendale as a place on the up.
The Chief Executive of Pall-Ex, the pallet distribution company, said she had heard great things about the borough.
Ms Devey will be speaking to Rossendale businesses at an event to celebrate local buisnesses and launch “Invest in Rossendale”.

Rossendale Council wants everyone to be fantastic at their recycling to help reduce the amount of incorrect items entering the recycling process.
The Council is encouraging residents to take a fresh look at their recycling, making sure everything is going in the correct bin.
Your grey recycling bin is for paper and cardboard.
