Leader unveils Haslingden investment plan

The Leader of Rossendale Council will update councillors on plans for new investment for Haslingden.

Councillor Alyson Barnes will outline the plans at Wednesday’s [March 21] meeting of full Council to bring in new money to improve the town.

Statement on Bacup THI

Councillor Andy MacNae, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Leisure and Tourism, said:
It has always been our intention to have a great centrepiece in Bacup. Since Lancashire County Council have confirmed that the Fountain must stay where it is the THI board is now focused on looking at ways of making the best use of it as the centrepiece for the THI public realm scheme.

Update on Waterside Mill, Bacup

Councillor Christine Lamb, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Regulatory Services, said:

Waterside Mill is an important part of Bacup’s heritage but sadly has fallen in to serious disrepair so much so the site is very dangerous and many residents consider it an eyesore. We have worked closely with a range of partners over a number of years but despite much time, work and continued effort we have not yet been able to get to a position where there are firm plans for it to be brought back into use.

Court hands down fines of over £19,000 for health and safety breach

A director of a food company was described as ‘cavalier’ in court after letting his staff use a dangerous machine without adequate safety guards.

Driss Bouzzid, a director of Driss Foods Ltd trading as Jo Jo’s in Waterfoot, Rossendale appeared at Burnley magistrates court on Friday (March 9).

The 55 year old resident of Waverley Road Blackburn pleaded guilty to two charges under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Dawn puts pen to paper for a good cause

Rossendale Council employee and budding author, Dawn Ashworth has published her very own children’s story. The book called ‘The Story of Jimmy Mouse and of Course Tommy Cat’ tells the tale of an unlikely friendship.

The story was originally told to Dawn who works in the Parks Department, by her father when she was a child.

Make sure you register to vote in time

Voters in Rossendale are being urged to register in time for local elections in May.  If you are already registered to vote there is no need to re-register.

The elections take place on Thursday, May 3rd, and the deadline for receiving applications to register to vote is Tuesday, April 17th.

Historic England withdraws objections to Spinning Point proposal

Historic England have confirmed they have withdrawn their objections to the proposals after seeing the revised plans.

Following a planning application submission by Rossendale Borough Council and Barnfield Investment Properties in December 2017, the design team met with Historic England to explore their concerns relating to the scale, mass and form of the building.

Funding Available for Electric Vehicle Charging Points for Rossendale Businesses

Rossendale Businesses are invited to apply for funding to install Electric Vehicle Charging points at their premises.

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) gives vouchers to businesses to support upfront purchase and installation costs for electric vehicle charging points. There is £300 available per socket available, which will need to be installed by an OLEV approved WCS contractor.

The programme runs every Wednesday at Rossendale Council Offices , Futures Park , Bacup at the “One Stop Shop” commencing Wednesday, March 7. Anyone can drop in and have an informal chat.
