Local artist Liam Spencer has spoken about the things that inspire him and his upcoming exhibition at Rossendale’s Whitaker art gallery.
Liam who is based at Prospect Studios, a studio which he shares with two other artists, is well known particularly in Manchester for his urban paintings.
Since moving to Rossendale his work has also been influenced by the surrounding countryside and wildlife.

Despite the ongoing bad weather Rossendale Council services are returning to action.
Waste collection crews have been back out this morning, Friday March 2. They are concentrating on main roads and primary gritting routes collecting the backlog from Wednesday, Thursday as well as today’s work.
Please leave bins/bags out for collection and they will be emptied as soon as possible.

Due to the bad weather a number of Council services have been disrupted.
After trying to brave the elements yesterday, waste collection crews had to suspend refuse collections until Friday.
They will be resumed as soon as it is safe to do so when extra staff will be deployed to help with the backlog who will also remove any additional side waste left by residents.

The aim of this project is to afford some protection to the heritage assets in our communities by registering them on the Community Asset Register.

Our waste collection crews worked hard this morning to get out and brave the elements to empty bins but unfortunately the wagons had to be pulled back to the depot due to heavy snow and worsening conditions. Collections have now been suspended.
We apologise for any inconvenience as this delay will affect the schedule for a number of days.

Rossendale Council has released a further update on the Empty Homes project.
“We wanted to provide an update on the Empty Homes project as recently there has been a lot of concern raised locally around it, and rightly so – councillors and residents have been badly let down.
“There has also been misinformation about the project which we would like to address.

A logo created by a pupil at Fearns Community Sports College in Stacksteads will be seen by thousands of people.
Rossendale Council asked the pupils to design a logo to promote Rossendale Works – a careers, employability and skills fair being organised at Haslingden Sports Centre on July 10.
Holly Duffy’s design features the words Rossendale Works in a circle and inside is a head with cogs inside the brain.

Rossendale Council is holding a briefing session for anyone planning to stand as a candidate in this year’s local elections.
Rossendale Council elections take place on Thursday, May 3.
The pre-nomination briefing for prospective candidates and agents will be held in the Council Chamber, Futures Park, Bacup, OL13 0BB, at 5.30pm on Monday, March 12

Rossendale Council has welcomed an application from Edenfield residents to establish a Neighbourhood Forum.
Last week, a group of residents formally applied to the Council to start the process.
You can find more information about the application on the Council’s website.
Responding to the news, Councillor Christine Lamb, whose portfolio oversees planning, said:
“As a Council, we welcome any process that allows the community to engage in important issues in their area.”
