Councillor explains vote to crack down on rogue landlords

Councillors have voted to introduce new penalties to crack down on rogue landlords.

The new powers will allow the Council to fine landlords who do not take seriously their responsibilities to tenants. The money from the fines will then be used to improve housing standards across the borough.

The Council has also pledged to tackle landlords who harass or evict tenants unfairly.

2018/19 budget update

Councillor Andrew Walmsley, Portfolio Holder for Resources and Customer Services, has updated on the latest budget position.

Councillors will meet next week to agree the budget for 18/19 including Council Tax rates – you can find papers here.

Councillor Walmsley said:

Following the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, February 21 a range of budget decisions have been recommended to full Council next week where a final decision will be made.

Council leader welcomes Flying Scotsman visit

The Flying Scotsman is visiting Rawtenstall Station for its first public outing of 2018 on March 10 and 11.  You can find more details on East Lancashire Railway site

New images show Spinning Point, Phase 2 plans

New images have been released as part of exciting plans on the future of Rawtenstall town centre.

The photos and fly-through video are part of revised plans for Spinning Point, Phase 2 which have been released today, February 20.

Following a planning application submission by Rossendale Borough Council and Barnfield Investment Properties in December 2017, the Design Team has enhanced the originally submitted scheme to address comments from consultees, including Historic England and local individuals.

Rossendale residents can now access a new scheme which has already saved 8,000 people living in Cheshire £2.1 million on their energy bills.  Fairerpower Red Rose has been created so that residents can benefit from a local alternative to the ‘big six’ energy companies.

Council planning team up for prestigious national award

Rossendale Council’s planning team has been shortlisted for the Local Authority Team of the Year at the United Kingdom and Ireland’s most prestigious planning awards – becoming one of only five local authority teams in the country to do so.

The Royal Town Planning Institute’s (RTPI) Awards for Planning Excellence are the most established and respected awards in the UK planning industry.

Small grants available for farming businesses in Rossendale

Rossendale farmers are encouraged to apply for small grants from a scheme which supports investment for specific agricultural equipment.

The Countryside Productivity Small Grant Scheme provides cash for equipment that will help to improve animal welfare, resource efficiency or nutrient management.

Grants are available from £3k-£12k covering up to 40 per cent of eligible costs, however there is a need to act quickly as the deadline for online applications is March 14 ,2018.
