Rossendale Borough Council are working in partnership with MSV Homecare and Repair (formerly St Vincent’s) to offer funding that will help keep your home warm this winter.
The Affordable Warmth scheme is funded by Lancashire County Council’s Green Energy Fund, which set aside funds to support home energy saving methods to help people stay warm over winter.

Organisers of Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival will be holding a quiz at the Rose ‘n’ Bowl in Stacksteads on Wednesday, January 24 at 7pm.
The quiz has been held for the past three years and has become a major fundraising event for the June carnival.
Last year more than 100 people attended and helped to raise more than £450.

The East Lancashire Recovery College is running free courses for adults.
They are aimed at giving people an an insight into personal development and mental health and well-being or helping to learn a new skill.
They include a wide range of courses such as Dementia Awareness, understanding ADHD, how to tackle depression and literacy skills.

Excess winter deaths are defined as the difference between the number of deaths in the winter months (December to March) compared with the previous (August to November) and following (April to July) three months.

Over 1,000 residents have now signed up to this year’s garden waste collection scheme.
The fortnightly collection runs from March to November and allows people to recycle grass cuttings, leaves, plants, twigs, small branches and hedge clippings.
It was announced in October last year that the collection would be charged at £35 for the year.

A health partnership from across Pennine Lancashire is backing the new Public Health England (PHE) Change4Life campaign which encourages parents to “Look for 100 calorie snacks, 2 a day max” to cut children’s sugar intake.
Together A Healthier Future is a programme to improve the health and care system in Pennine Lancashire, which is made up of East Lancashire, including Rossendale, and Blackburn with Darwen.

Rossendale will again play host to an adrenaline-fuelled mountain biking festival this summer.
Northern Grip returns to the borough in 2018, taking place at Bacup’s Lee Quarry and the pump track at Stubbylee Park on Saturday, July 7 2018.
Fans of cycling can look forward to an exciting day of trails, new bike demonstrations and exhibitions, as well as live music and DJs playing into the night.

Hundreds of people braved the weather to enjoy Whitworth’s annual Duck Race on New Year’s Day.
A popular event in the Whitworth calendar, the ducks took to the water at the overflow of Cowm Reservoir on Tong End in the cold and blustery conditions. In total over 1,300 ducks were sponsored and around 400 people turned out on the day in this growing event.
