Post-Christmas waste and recycling advice

With Christmas and New Year over for another year, Rossendale Council has issued some advice and guidance on what to do with some of the waste and recycling created as a result of the festive period.

Please take your real Christmas tree to your nearest recycling site, where it will be taken away and turned into compost.

Business backs Spinning Point plans

The future vision for Rawtenstall town centre has been praised by  the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce.

The plans for phase two of the Spinning Point development were published just before Christmas. Councillor Andrew MacNae’s blog explains in more detail.

And now the Chamber has warmly welcomed the plans.

Miranda Baker, Chief Executive of the Chamber, said:

“The Chamber are delighted to see new investment plans coming forward for Spinning Point in Rawtenstall town centre, this kind of Council led development has the potential to significantly increase the economic and social success of the town centre as a viable and thriving community hub, bringing in new businesses across a wide range of leisure, hotel commercial and retail premises and boosting quality town centre accommodation.”

Heavy Snow Warning

Heavy snow is expected to start between 4am and 5am on Friday, December 29th and is due to last for 4-5 hours. This could be followed with some lighter snow/sleet before rain begins to fall in the early to mid-afternoon.

Snow is predicted to fall to a depth of between 5-10 cm.

Council calls for scores on the doors

Rossendale Council is lobbying the government for greater transparency for consumers when purchasing food.

The Council, following a motion at its full meeting in December, is asking the government to make it mandatory for eateries to display food hygiene ratings, as is currently the case in Wales and is soon to be introduced in Northern Ireland.

Council approves the sale of Rosso to Transdev

At last night’s meeting (20th December) Rossendale Borough Council approved the sale of Rossendale Transport Limited (trading as Rosso) to Transdev Blazefield. The formal transfer will be completed in the next few weeks.

As part of the agreement, Transdev is planning to invest significantly in Rosso including spending in the region of £3 million on state-of-the-art new buses to be placed on the busiest routes to benefit the most people and the most communities.

Have a healthy Christmas and make sure you cook your turkey properly

Christmas is the time of year when people get together at the dinner table and enjoy a family meal together. NHS Blackburn with Darwen and NHS East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are reminding those who are hosting, to make sure you cook your turkey properly.

Firstly, if you buy a frozen turkey make sure you defrost it properly before you cook it.

Court hands out fine for cold and damp rental property

A company was ordered to pay over £4,000 for failure to tackle dampness and disrepair at a Rossendale property.

Blackburn Magistrates Court handed down a £3,600 fine, £718 costs and a £170 victim surcharge to the letting agents, Warburton, Dickinson and Pollard Partnership Limited, for not complying with improvement notices served under the Housing Act 2004.
