Proposed takeover of Council-owned bus operator announced

Bus passengers in Rossendale, Bury and Rochdale could soon benefit from a multi-million-pound investment in new buses after plans were announced today for the local authority-owned bus operator Rosso to join the Transdev Blazefield group of companies.

Subject to approval from Council Members at a meeting on Wednesday (December 20, 2017) and to finalisation of the detailed terms of the deal, Rossendale Borough Council has reached an agreement in principle to sell its shares in Rosso to Transdev.

Transformation of Waterfoot Town Centre

A new community space is steadily taking shape on the site of the former basketball courts in Waterfoot Centre.

Pupils from the Green Team at Waterfoot Primary School came down to site to take a closer look this week. They will be working alongside artist Alastair Price and Proffitts – Investing in Communities to learn more about the history of Waterfoot and of this site itself and turn their ideas into beautiful and unique designs which will be interpreted into permanent artwork for the site.

Taster day at Stubbylee Park

Are you over 25, looking for work and living in Bacup?  Do you want to get outside and learn new skills?

If so you might be interested in a new environmental project called MyPlace starting this week at Stubbylee Park.

It will see participants attend weekly sessions at the park, getting involved in practical conservation, bushcraft, mindfuness and other nature activities.

Bin collection changes due to weather

Due to the weather conditions, the waste and recycling teams were unable to complete all of last week’s collections.

The Council will be deploying additional resources tomorrow (Tuesday December 12) to catch up with these outstanding collections and would ask residents to leave their bins out for collection until we empty them.

Countdown to Christmas with the ‘12 Days of Christmas Kindness’ campaign

Rossendale residents are being encouraged to pledge and perform random acts of kindness as part of a community campaign: ‘12 Days of Christmas Kindness.’

Community development programme Lancashire Time Credits, in partnership with Rossendale Borough Council’s ‘Living Well Living Better’ project, is launching the campaign, to support those in the community during the festive period, a time of year when many people can feel particularly lonely and isolated.

The draft plan is a blueprint to improve the health of people living in Pennine Lancashire (which covers Blackburn with Darwen and East Lancashire), as well as improving health and care services in the area.

Pennine Lancashire chosen to trail-blaze new ways of transforming the way sport and activity is offered in England

  • It’s one of 12 places selected to work on a ground-breaking new approach to tackle inactivity in communities
  • Around £100 million of National Lottery funding will be allocated to the 12 over four years
  • Encouraging better collaboration between a wider range of local organisations including voluntary groups, social enterprises, local authorities, faith organisations, schools, GPs and parenting groups

Pennine Lancashire has been chosen by Sport England as a pilot area to work with on a bold new approach to build healthier, more active communities across England.

Changes announced to garden waste collection scheme

Rossendale Borough Council is introducing changes to the garden waste collection service.

From March 2018 the fortnightly service will be provided on a subscription basis and will be charged at £35.

The move is the result of cuts introduced by central government and the decision by Lancashire County Council to reduce its support for recycling services by more than £500,000.

Court hands out fines for failing to dispose of waste

Fines have been handed down for failure to dispose of waste following two successful prosecutions by Rossendale borough Council.

Richard Ashworth, of Brown Street, Bacup, was taken to court by the Council following complaints from residents.

The 37 year-old had allowed rotting household rubbish to build up in his back yard.
