Following on from the 11 week consultation on the Council’s new draft Local Plan over the summer, which included seven roadshow events across the borough, the Forward Planning team are busy reviewing all of the responses received.

Rossendale Council is backing Small Business Saturday, taking place this Saturday December 2.
Small Business Saturday UK is a not-for-profit, grassroots campaign which exists to support, inspire and promote small business on the first Saturday in December each year and beyond.
The campaign encourages businesses to promote themselves and work with others to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.

Rossendale Councillors are to consider a report on a proposed increase in bereavement services charges at next week’s Cabinet meeting on November 29.
Councillor Jackie Oakes, Portfolio Holder for Operations, said:
In order to maintain our service to its current standard, we are having to look at increasing our charges in line with other Lancashire Authorities.

A building preservation charity in Rossendale is calling on local people to share their memories to help highlight the importance of the area’s rich heritage.
Valley Heritage is asking for people to submit memories, stories, and photographs of historic buildings they think have had a positive impact on the community over the years.

Rossendale Council Leader, Councillor Alyson Barnes, has updated on the second phase of work to improve Rawtenstall town centre in a new film.
Councillor Barnes gave the latest on the Spinning Point development, as work continues on the first phase and plans begin to take shape for the second.
The project is being delivered by the Rossendale Together Barnfield (RTB) Partnership, who recently sought residents’ views on the latest phase of Spinning Point.

Get ready for Christmas in Rossendale with a whole host of events taking place around the borough.
On Saturday, November 18, it’s the Rawtenstall Christmas Light Switch on.
It takes place at 5pm at the top of Bank St (outside DoDahs) and will see Rawtenstall’s Tom Hamer, double Paralympic silver medallist, welcome in the festival season.

Over one hundred people went along to an event to look at the proposals for the future of Bacup town centre.
The ‘Come and Talk to Us’ session took place at the A B & D Centre and saw officers from Rossendale Borough Council and Lancashire County Council on hand to discuss the plans.

Rossendale Council has praised organisers of a magical lantern procession that lit up Stacksteads.
Hundreds of people took part in parade, which has been described as the best one yet.
Arts Council funding enabled scores of workshops to be held across Rossendale over three months to help the community create and decorate their own lanterns.

Rossendale will come together to salute the nation’s war heroes during this year’s Remembrance commemorations.
Several events will take place across the borough to remember those who made sacrifices to defend the country.

There will also be a Festival of Remembrance Event on November 5 at St Mary’s Church in Rawtenstall on November 5.

A man was fined over £1,000 for repeatedly failing to clear up his dogs’ mess.
Matt Scott, 41, of Hud Rake, Haslingden, was ordered to pay a fine of £660, with £435 costs and a £66 victim surcharge at Burnley Magistrates Court.
Scott was prosecuted by Rossendale Borough Council for letting the waste of his two dogs accumulate on decking behind his house over a period of six months
He had failed to observe an abatement notice served by a Council Environmental Health Officer in June and as a result was prosecuted.
