Following a meeting with Lancashire County Council on Thursday, August 24 Bacup THI board Chair, Councillor Andy MacNae, has said the following:
At a meeting yesterday (August 24) at County Hall, County Councillors Steen and Eaton confirmed their position that they would not support any public realm scheme for Bacup that moves the existing roundabout.

The refurbishment of one of Bacup’s most historic buildings has been completed.
Built in the 1930s, the Art Deco Real Building on St James Square has undergone a total revamp and its historic details have been restored.
The work which took around four months included the installation of new windows with bespoke steel frames, replacement of the roof and shop front, structural works to the cellar and stone repairs.

The latest round of the Rossendale Community Fund is now open for applications.
Local organisations are invited to apply for a grant from the fund before the deadline of September 22.
The Rossendale Community Fund has been created by Rossendale Borough Council in partnership with the Community Foundation for Lancashire to offer grants to support projects that help families and children and young people engage in community activities and learning.

Ski Rossendale has begun more exciting redevelopment plans at its Haslingden Old Road site.
Working with Rossendale Council, The Ski Rossendale Board has created a proposal to build a new reception, changing area, café and outside dining area at the Rawtenstall-based dry ski slope.
The new plans are part of an overall 630K project, funded by Sport England and supported by Rossendale Council, which includes enhanced skiing facilities along with the new ski centre building.

Walkers are being invited to put their best foot forward for the annual Rossendale Round the Hills Walk.
Taking place on Sunday, September 3, it leaves from Marl Pits Sports Centre and is 18 miles long.
This is the 50th year of the walk, which was originally established by Walter Whittaker with the aim of encouraging local people to enjoy a long walk in the surrounding hills.

Rossendale residents are receiving a form asking them to check and update information that appears on the electoral register for their address.
The mail-out is part of the Borough’s annual voter registration canvass – which is designed to ensure that the electoral register is up-to-date and to identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.

Marathon man, Adrian Smith, is gearing up for his next challenge – The Great North Run.
The Bacup-based father-of-three, returned in May from the Middle East where he ran a marathon in aid of families affected by war and persecution in the region.
Now the 56 year old, has decided to embark on yet another run for charity by taking part in the half marathon from Newcastle to South Shields.

A taxi has been taken off the road in a Council crackdown on unsafe vehicles.
The taxi owner, Mr Madoris Ali, had his hackney carriage proprietors licence revoked by Rossendale Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee for constantly failing to maintain his vehicle in a roadworthy state and it failing its last MOT with a number of dangerous items including brakes and tyres.

Rural businesses in Rossendale are being encouraged to contact Rossendale Council’s economic development team for help to apply for funding to help grow their operations.
LEADER funding is one of two separate programmes available and is a locally delivered grant scheme aimed at promoting jobs and business growth to improve the rural economy.

Following my statement last week, I met with senior officers and councillors at Lancashire County Council on Friday. It was a positive meeting in so far as LCC confirmed their continued support for new public realm in Bacup and their desire to work closely with Rossendale Borough Council and the THI board.
