A public inquiry was launched last year into local plans to expand the Scout Moor wind farm on land between Rossendale and Rochdale.
Rossendale Borough Council has now received word that the Secretary of State has overturned the Council’s decision to award planning permission for this project.
Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of Rossendale Borough Council, said:
We are extremely disappointed about this.

Rossendale Council Leader, Alyson Barnes, has welcomed news that an injunction has been granted to halt work being carried out at Kippax Mill in Goodshawfold.
The move follows a recent Temporary Stop Notice being issued to the landowner, which he failed to observe.
The Council has now been granted an injunction preventing him, among other things, from changing the use of the land or carrying out further engineering operations to include excavation and the formation of any hard surface or track.

Highlights include the Northern Grip Mountain Bike Festival, which will kick-start the Summer of adrenaline with a two day festival starting today and running throughout the weekend.

The RSPCA are warning people as the weather warms up it is dangerous to leave your dog in a car even with the windows open.
Many people still believe that it’s ok to leave a dog in a car on a warm day if the windows are left open or they’re parked in the shade, but the truth is, it’s still a very dangerous situation for the dog.

The Northern Grip takes place this weekend (July 7, 8 and July 9) at Lee Quarry.
Ahead of the festival Councillor Andy MacNae, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Leisure and Tourism, said:

A popular local museum is planning a major extension after receiving a Heritage Lottery Fund windfall.
The Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery in Rawtenstall has been successful in an initial £100k Heritage Lottery Fund bid to develop plans to extend the museum into the barn, stables and yard next-door – which are currently used by Rossendale Council.

Residents are being made aware that Market Street in Whitworth will be closed from about 9am today (Saturday, July 1) to allow the demolition of Albert Mill, which is between Healey Corner and Hall Street.
The derelict mill which has been the target of numerous arson attacks and incidents of vandalism is currently being demolished.

Unsafe taxis were taken off the road during a Council led crackdown at Manchester Airport.
The team gave out ten notices to drivers licensed by Rossendale for minor defects on their taxis and suspended four vehicles on the spot for serious defects including one which had a bald tyre.
Operations such as this one are vital ways of ensuring taxi drivers are meeting safety requirements to protect the health and safety of the public.
