New CGI image of Bacup public realm scheme released

A new computer generated image of what Bacup town centre could like in the future has been released.

The image shows what the proposed public realm improvement scheme for St James Square will look like from the view of a pedestrian.

The Bacup Townscape Heritage Initiative is a £2m investment in the town to restore its historic character.

Flooding advice for residents

Residents or business owners who think that they might be at risk from flooding are invited to attend the Flood Fayre.

Organised by the Rawtenstall Flood Forum there will help and advice on offer to anyone who thinks they could be affected.

The flood forum estimates that around six and a half thousand properties in the borough are at some degree of risk from flooding from rivers, groundwater, reservoirs or drains.

Council Leader speaks out against illegal work

Rossendale Council Leader, Alyson Barnes, has expressed her deep dismay at a landowner continuing with work in a local village, despite being issued with a Temporary Stop Notice.

The Council is now taking further enforcement action to stop works at Kippax Factory in Goodshawfold.

Diggers moved onto the site earlier this month to start the development, which has caused much consternation among local residents.

CCTV improvements planned for Rossendale

Rossendale Council has welcomed new investment which will fund major improvements to the borough’s CCTV system.

The Council has been successful in its funding bid to modernise the system covering the borough’s town centres.

The investment comes from the Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Safety Fund. Here’s the link to the announcement.

Council update on Albert Mill, Whitworth

Following the announcement that work is to begin to redevelop Albert Mill on Albert Street and demolish the building, ward Councillor Sean Serridge said: “I’m delighted we are seeing progress on this site. It has been a major concern for residents, me and my fellow councillors, police and the fire service.

RTB Partnership welcomes progress on Spinning Point development

The Rossendale Together Barnfield (RTB) Partnership has welcomed progress on Spinning Point development as new hoardings have been put in place.

Kevin Ruth, Chair of the RTB Partnership, said: “We are pleased the hoardings have gone up and people can see the  progress that has already been made. The scheme is on track and once finished will be a big boost to this borough.”

Help shape the future of local health and care

Rossendale residents are invited to get involved, debate and help shape the future of health and social care in Pennine Lancashire at a summer engagement event in the borough.

NHS, local councils and voluntary community and faith sector organisations in Pennine Lancashire, which is made up of East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen, have been working together for the past year on a programme to change the way health and social care is delivered in the area.

Next phase of engagement on future of Bacup town centre announced

The board overseeing the Bacup Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) has announced plans for the next phase of engagement on the £2m scheme.

As part of the conditions of the THI funding, a public realm improvement scheme is required.

It means changes to the road layout to make the town centre easier to use for pedestrians.

Warm weather advice

With parts of England currently experiencing heatwave conditions, Rossendale residents are reminded to stay safe in any extreme heat and follow relevant health advice.

The Met Office has triggered a ‘Level 3’ alert in the North West to say a heatwave is now occurring. During a heatwave, when temperatures remain abnormally high over more than a couple of days, you may get dehydrated and your body may overheat.
