People in Rossendale are being invited to join in and observe a national minute’s silence this morning (Monday, June 19) at 11am as a mark of respect for those who have lost their lives in the fire at Grenfell Tower, London.

The mayor of Rossendale, Councillor Colin Crawforth is appealing for people to support his fundraising walk in aid of local good causes.
The mayor will be joining the Bacup Carnival Procession on Sunday, June 25 and wearing full mayoral regalia to raise funds for his nominated charities.
The procession will lead from Broadclough Mills, Burnley Road, Bacup and on arrival at Stubbylee Park it will signal the start of events that will continue through to 4pm.

Cribden Hill hides in plain sight. It’s a big lump that looks down upon the west end of the Rossendale valleys. You can’t miss it. But loads of people do.
Where is it?
It lies between Rawtenstall and Haslingden. It’s the hill that has Ski Rossendale on its flank, Whitaker Park on its skirt and the Halo on its side.

Colleagues at Rossendale Borough Council are delighted to have hit their £1,000 target to raise money for Rossendale Hospice.
The group along with Councillor Steve Hughes completed the 10K run through Manchester city centre on Sunday 28 May.
Calling themselves the Futures Running Team, the runners practised together weekly after work and for most of them the 10K was their first major race.

Residents are being invited to attend a flag raising ceremony to mark Armed Forces Day.
The ceremony takes place on Monday, June 19 at St. Mary’s Gardens in Rawtenstall.
Armed Forces Day is a chance to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

As part of ongoing work on Rawtenstall’s Spinning Point bus station development, the pavement running alongside the town hall on Bacup Road will be closed from this Thursday morning (June 15.)
During this time pedestrians will not be able to use that side of the pavement and will be directed a different route across the road.

A new film is helping cement Rossendale’s reputation as the Adrenaline Valley.
The Hope/PMBA Enduro series Round 2 took place at Lee Quarry in Bacup on Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4.
Hundreds of mountain bike racers tackled the 23-mile six stage course. The video shows the thrills and spills of an exciting event.

Rossendale Council has praised the work of a borough community group which has received Royal approval.
Civic Pride Rossendale has won a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, described as an MBE for charities.
Stuart Sugarman, Chief Executive of Rossendale Council, paid tribute to the group and its volunteers.
He said: “I am delighted Civic Pride have been recognised for their outstanding work in making Rossendale a better place.
