A special webcast taking place next week will promote upcoming volunteering opportunities in Rossendale.
Broadcasting live from Haslingden Community Link & Children’s Centre from 1 -3pm on Monday, June 5 the webcast will feature question and answer sessions with community groups; an opportunity to share volunteering experiences; a chance to ‘name and acclaim’ unsung local heroes as well as general information about volunteering.

People in Rossendale can now get easy access to the best-rated health apps available online.
A new and improved version of the ORCHA online platform has recently launched to help the thousands of people in the area who use apps every day to help manage health issues and medical conditions as well as to generally improve their health and wellbeing.

Riding bikes is clearly a big part of Northern Grip. Whether it’s on your own bike or one of the dozens of swish new demo bikes, enjoying the trails of Rossendale is a big part of the Grip experience.
But there’s also the other aspect of Northern Grip. The reason why we call it a festival.

A Haslingden resident has been given an award for her work supporting those affected by cancer.
Carol James who volunteers for the East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen Macmillan Community Cancer Information and Support Service and is based at Burnley General Hospital, has been awarded Volunteer of the Year.
The award, on behalf of the East Lancashire Hospital Trust’s STAR Awards 2017, was for Carol’s work in supporting the establishment of the support service across the Burnley General Hospital site last year.

Stuart Sugarman, Chief Executive of Rossendale Council, said: “Our thoughts are with the victims of last night’s horrendous events and their families. It is shocking and sad news to wake up to especially as it took place so close to home. We will, of course, as a Council offer any support we can to anyone from our borough affected by these awful events as well offer our support to the people of Manchester at this terrible time.”

Voters who want to have their say in this year’s general election must register today – Monday, May 22.
The election takes place next month on June 8 and locally voters will cast their ballots to elect an MP for Rossendale and Darwen.
While the deadline to register to vote is 11.59pm on May 22, the deadline to register for a postal vote is 5pm on May 23, and the deadline to register for a proxy vote is 5pm on May 31.

With excitement already building for the Northern Grip festival – an annual celebration of Mountain Bike culture coming to Lee Quarry and Stubbylee Park on July 8 and 9 – another mountain biking event happening in Rossendale is set to whet everyone’s appetites further.
The Hope/PMBA Enduro series Round 2 is set to take over Lee Quarry in Bacup on Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4 promising some high octane thrills and spills in the heart of the borough.

Our festival hub will be in the amazing Stubbylee Park – nestled at the foot of Lee Quarry this hidden northern gem of a Victorian park offers stunning spaces, woodland, cafe and perhaps most importantly an easy gateway to the thrills and rides we’ve got planned for the day. We’ll be taking over the rear of the park for the weekend bringing plenty of festival treats to add to the recently opened pump track
We’re excited to announce that we will now have camping and showers available ON SITE in Stubbylee Park for both Friday and Saturday nights.

The outgoing Mayor of Rossendale raised nearly £15,500 for his chosen charities during his year in office.
Councillor Granville Morris, who represents Greenfield, attended many mayoral engagements since taking on the role of the borough’s first citizen in May 2016.
Fundraising events throughout the year, organised by the Mayor, Mayoress and his Charity Committee, have included coffee mornings, afternoon teas, meal evenings, a fashion show, musical concerts and a Grand Prize Draw.
