Local young people are being offered the chance to take part in a 12-week course to gain practical skills, secure valuable qualifications and meet new people.
The Prince’s Trust’s Team Programme will take place at Nelson Fire Station from Monday, May 8 in conjunction with the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.

The expansion of Rawtenstall Station is a step closer after the East Lancashire Railway appointed a major new partner.
Chair of ELR Mike Kelly announced on his blog that they had formed a partnership with Richard Shuttleworth from Equilibrium Architects to move the expansion of the station forward.

There’s now just one week to go until the county council elections on Thursday 4 May.
The elections will decide all 84 seats on the council.
The county council provides the majority of local government services in Lancashire including education, fostering and adoption, health and social care, cultural services, libraries and archives, registering births, deaths and marriages, recycling and highways and transport.

Parliament has approved an early general election, to take place on Thursday 8 June.
This does not affect the date of the County Council elections, which will take place as planned on Thursday 4 May.

Rossendale’s Lee Quarry will play host to this year’s Northern Grip, a hugely successful mountain bike festival.
This new video promotes the festival as well as showcasing some stunning views of Rossendale.
Northern Grip organiser David Agnew said:

Adrian Smith, a Bacup-based father-of-three, is preparing to run a marathon in the heat of the Middle East in May to support families affected by war and persecution in the Middle East.
Adrian, 56, has previously visited Iraq and has seen for himself the suffering faced by many families following the invasion of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS), which forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes.

Rossendale Borough Council is warning those who don’t clean up after their dogs, ‘if you’re caught, you will be fined.’
The warning comes as a man received an on-the-spot fine of £75 thanks to sterling work from local PCSO Chris Hamer from the Rossendale Neighbourhood Policing Team.
PCSO Hamer was driving down Newchurch Road, Stacksteads on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 11 when he spotted a man riding a bike whilst walking his dog.

Bacup will be in a festive mood this Saturday, April 15 as the Bacup Easter Festival rolls into town.
The famous Britannia Coconut Dancers will be performing their annual ‘Boundary to Boundary’ dance and Bacup Market will be a hive of activity with lots of extra stalls selling local products, gifts and crafts.

Anyone who wants to vote in the local county council elections is urged to register by today’s deadline (April 13).
The elections take place on Thursday 4 May and only people who are registered to vote can take part.
Candidates chosen by voters in the County Council elections will make decisions on the future provision of local services delivered by Lancashire County Council.

The next phase of an exciting £2m project to refurbish some of Bacup’s most historical buildings has now begun.
The 5-year Townscape Heritage Initiative in Bacup aims to restore and refurbish shop fronts and building facades, bring vacant floor space back into use, reinstate architectural features, perform structural work as well as involve local residents in aspects of the restoration process.
