Breweries Wanted for the Pennine Way

Breweries are being invited to put forward a proposal to brew an official Pennine Way beer!

The Pennine Way is Britain’s oldest National Trail and undoubtedly its best known walking route. Over the past 50 years people have been embarking on this 268 mile journey along the spine of England, from Edale in Derbyshire to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders.

Council Grant Supports Community Website

The REAL Directory community website is going from strength to strength and thanks to a grant from Rossendale Council the website is funded for the next 12 months.

The website, www.realtd.co.uk provides community information to people living or working in Rossendale and is now a significant source of information on community organisations and events in Rossendale.

Team Effort Keeps VIC Soldiering On to Final

Members of VIC were given five star treatment at the House of Lords as finalists in the  national Soldiering On Awards.

The champagne reception, in a marquee on the embankment of the River Thames, was an opportunity to share the work of VIC with the five other finalists in the category Working Together and to meet some of the judges.

Call for Dog Mess Clean Up

Environmental Health Officers are reminding dog owners to regularly clear up dog waste from back yards following an increase in the number of complaints about this.

Accumulation of dog mess, if left, is not only anti-social but can cause smells, flies and is extremely unhygienic.

Our Environmental Health Officers are encouraging people to make sure they clean up after their dogs in order to prevent unpleasant conditions and complaints from other residents.

Vote for Local Company Arthouse

A Rossendale Company has been shortlisted for a prestigious international award – and it needs your help.

Arthouse Limited, which designs interior products such as wallpaper, wall art, mirrors and cushions, is in the running for a National Public Champions Awards, which are part the European Business Awards.

The company, which employs more than 70 people, will be battling with other UK businesses in a public vote.

Grane Road Litter Pick Success

Work in January on Grane Road removes vast amount of dumped litter.

Rossendale Borough Council’s Park’s Team litter picked the verges and laybys on both side of the road from Haslingden Cemetery to the Hyndburn Boundary over 3 days- 16th to 18th January 2017.

Over the winter since we were last there, a build-up of litter and fly tipped items had seriously detracted from the natural beauty of the route.

Update on Stubbylee Masterplan

Pump Track work starts to take place to progress the Masterplan

As part of the Stubbylee Masterplan, we carried out consultation in April 2016 as we looked to develop the Pump Track project. This is basically a bike track made out of moulded earth that is used to develop Rider’s skills.

Haslingden Task Force working to improve Haslingden

Haslingden Task Force is working on two key projects to support the continued development of the town. 

Rossendale Borough Council has provided £100,000 of funding through the Task Force to provide a catalyst to develop regeneration initiatives in Haslingden.

£50,000 has been allocated to the Shop Front Improvement Scheme through which business owners in the town centre can apply for grants for 50% of the cost of improving their shop front, up to a maximum of £2000.
