Rossendale Council has issued the following update around Spinning Point Phase 2.
Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council, said:
Rossendale is a place on the up and Rawtenstall is a huge part of the exciting plans we have for the borough.
There is a buzz in the town with the market rejuvenation and the regeneration scheme at Spinning Point.

Women from Syria, Egypt, Iraq and Kuwait are getting together this week at The Whitaker, Rawtenstall, to cook several hundred portions of Middle Eastern picnic foods for sampling by residents of Rossendale.
These tasting samples will be offered to participants on the afternoon of Sunday 23rd June at a celebration for UK Refugee Week, Rossendale Friendship Festival.

A builder who repeatedly ignored Rossendale Council’s calls to restore land behind a former rural pub has been heavily fined.
The Council welcomed Preston Crown Court’s £81,699 fine for Stanley Ainsworth and Ribble Valley Luxury Homes Limited for ignoring a planning enforcement notice.
Ainsworth secured planning permission to convert the former Glory pub in Loveclough but he and his company breached Council planning regulations when he extended the rear boundary into the open countryside without the benefit of planning permission.

Rossendale Council has announced plans for an exciting partnership to rejuvenate Rawtenstall market.
In papers published today, the Council has outlined plans which will see the owners of the very successful Clog Market take on the management of Rawtenstall Market.
Speaking about the announcement, Councillor Alyson Barnes, leader of the Council, said:
“We want to see all our markets be vibrant, colourful and bustling, venues that bring in local people as well as shoppers from far and wide.

We are aware of rumours circulating on social media that Rossendale Council has put together a secret plan for parking in Rawtenstall. We wanted to address those rumours.
No secret plan for parking has been put together. As our leader Councillor Alyson Barnes said in February, we are developing a broader parking strategy, which will be shaped and influenced by a cross party working group and which will be undertaken in consultation with traders groups and the community partnership.

Partners signed the steel of the new Rawtenstall bus station to mark progress on the multi-million pound development.
Representatives from Rossendale Council, developers Barnfield and Transdev each took turns to leave goodwill messages on the frame of the new bus station.
Transdev has committed to using the new bus station.
Work on the station, funded by the Council, Lancashire County Council and the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership, is due to finish in early summer.

The Deputy Leader of Rossendale Council, Cllr Christine Lamb, re-opened Rawtenstall’s renovated town hall last week.
New tenants, Together Housing, welcomed Council officials along with guests from the Rossendale Together Barnfield Partnership to attend the ribbon cutting and tour the building.
Together Housing will use the space to deliver important front-line services across Rossendale.

Rossendale Council has been working with Department of Works and Pensions and in contact with Tesco since news broke that the Rawtenstall store was closing and to be replaced by a Jack’s.
The store is due to close on January 13 with 175 jobs affected.
Councillor Alyson Barnes, leader of the Council, said:
“It was very sad that Tesco will be closing at the end of this week.

Happy New Year.
Civic Pride are constantly recruiting new volunteers and consequently we keep a range of hi-vis vests and jackets available in a range of sizes but when Colin joined we had to rethink our strategy. Colin is the border collie, a rescue dog who won’t let owner Mike (holding the lead) out his sight and is a regular addition to the Thursday morning team sessions!
