Council welcomes East Lancashire Railway partnership announcement

The expansion of Rawtenstall Station is a step closer after the East Lancashire Railway appointed a major new partner.

Chair of ELR Mike Kelly announced on his blog that they had formed a partnership with Richard Shuttleworth from Equilibrium Architects to move the expansion of the station forward.

Former Rawtenstall Town Hall building fire update

A spokesman for Barnfield said: “We will be inspecting the building following on from the incident and small fire at the former Rawtenstall Town Hall extension building over the weekend so we can’t comment further at this stage.

“What we can say though is there have been a number of recent incidents involving youths breaching the security fence and entering the building.

All to be held at Kay St Baptist Church, Kay Street, Rawtenstall, BB4 7LS

Hoardings will shortly be going up around the development site and so we wanted to mark this work with some public information sessions on the project.

Rossendale residents and representatives of local community groups are invited to attend their local Neighbourhood Forum meeting to find out more about local services and activities and events in their area.

There are four Neighbourhood Forums in Rossendale covering Haslingden, Rawtenstall, Bacup and Whitworth.  The Forums, which are open to all local residents, are informal community meetings to allow networking and information sharing and any agreed action points.

Christmas in Rossendale

Christmas in Rossendale is in full swing following light switch ons up and down the Valley.

Rawtenstall held their switch on event on Saturday November 26th with a vibrant and very busy town square Market. The town lights were switched on by Paralympic silver medallist Tom Hamer., to delight of the hundreds in the crowd.

Start your Christmas in Rawtenstall

Rawtenstall Christmas Market and Lights Switch On – Saturday 26 November.

There will be a magical Christmas Market on the Town Square in Rawtenstall on Saturday 26 November featuring over 50 stalls selling handmade artisan products, street food, farmers market produce, gifts and clothing. The market, which is open from 11am through to 8pm, is organised by Mark Smith, organiser of the Rawtenstall Farmers Market, Jane Boys, organiser of The Clog Market, and Danny Solazzo, owner of Artisan, supported by Rossendale Borough Council.

The Flying Scotsman Returns to Rawtenstall

Rossendale residents are in for a locomotive treat this week as the famous Flying Scotsman returns to the East Lancashire Railway as part of the Scotsman In Steam event. 

The Flying Scotsman visited Rawtenstall in January this year, following its £4.2m restoration at Riley and Sons Ltd in Bury, to huge crowds.

Good Luck Tom!

Tom Hamer, from Rawtenstall, will be Rossendale’s representative in the Rio Paralympics as he competes in the swimming pool.

Tom impressed the Para-Swimming world when he stormed to silver at the Commonwealth Games which was his international debut and he has since built on this performance to win medals at the European and World Championships

On his World Championship debut at Glasgow 2015 Hamer made an instant impact in the S14 classification securing himself a bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle and just missed out on the chance of another medal in the SM14 200m Individual Medley finishing fourth overall.

Community Column: Britain in Bloom Judging

If you were in Rawtenstall last Thursday morning (July 21st) you may have seen a group of individuals in Civic Pride hi-vis jackets walking around admiring the gardens. Judgement Day 21.7.'16-7-EditWhat was remarkable was that they weren’t weeding, planting, digging, pruning, sweeping up or picking litter which is what they’ve been doing day after day, in all weathers for many weeks during the lead up to Britain in Bloom!
