Improvements to Moller Ring play area swings into action

Rossendale Borough Council are working in partnership with Community Interest Company Proffitts – Investing in Communities on an exciting project to improve the Moller Ring Play Area in Crawshawbooth.  

The design for the play area includes traditional timber play equipment, as well as natural play elements like earth mounds, tunnels, bridges and a new trim trail.

Healthy eating award scheme ‘Recipe 4 Health’ launched in Rossendale

A new healthy eating award scheme, Recipe 4 Health, has been launched in Rossendale this week, with two businesses already receiving their award. Millie Masons and Spicy Jack Deli located in Rawtenstall market have both received their bronze awards.  

Recipe 4 Health is a Lancashire Trading Standards scheme and is awarded by Lancashire County Council and supported locally by Environmental Health Officers from Rossendale Borough Council.

Edenfield pump track opens to the public

Rossendale Borough Council have been working in partnership with the Edenfield Village Residents Association and local Community Interest Company Proffitts – Investing in Communities on a project to create a new pump track in Edenfield. 

The track, designed and constructed by Velosolutions UK, was opened to the public on 30 March and is designed to be both a playground and a training facility for bikers, skateboarders or scooter riders of all skill levels.

CULTURAL gem The Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery, in Rawtenstall is now putting Rossendale on the national and international map.

Following the completion of a £2.2million extension and renovation of the former Rossendale Museum, the venue now attracts business bookings, major international artists to exhibit in various gallery spaces, is a venue for weddings, a hub for events, community group meetings and much more.

Stubbylee and Moorlands Park awarded the coveted Green Flag Award for the second year

In a record-breaking year Stubbylee and Moorlands Park is raising its prestigious Green Flag Award again. 

Rossendale Council is celebrating after receiving a Green Flag Award for Stubbylee and Moorlands Park in Bacup one of 2208 UK winners. 

The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

After two years that have seen our parks and green spaces play a vital role for people through lockdowns as a place to relax, exercise and meet friends and family safely, the news that Stubbylee and Moorlands Park has again achieved the Green Flag Award is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that make the green space a great space that everyone can enjoy.

Rossendale Forest campaign wins regional PR award

Rossendale Council has won a regional Public Sector PR award in recognition of the Rossendale Forest initiative.  

The council were announced as the winners of the category at the PRCA DARE Awards 2022(North West) ceremony in Manchester.   

The winning Public Sector Award focused on the Rossendale Forest project and the impact it’s had in just a few short months.

Skaters help secure funding for improvements

Rossendale Borough Council have secured £98,000 from Viridor Credits Environmental Company to help with the refurbishment of the Stubbylee Skate Park. 

Local skaters approached Rossendale Council to work together to help them to improve the skate park.  

Skater Jack Nuttall said: “We initially contacted Cllr Andrew Walmsley to ask if anything could be done to improve the quality of the skate park surface and the ramps, they are old but still really well used.

Community raises more than £190k towards new track at Marl Pits

Work will soon begin to rip up the old Marl Pits running track in Rawtenstall and replace it with a state-of-the-art new all-weather facility. 

Thanks to a massive community effort which involved Rossendale Harriers, Rossendale Triathlon Club, Rossendale Leisure Trust and special needs sports club Rossendale Rays, £190,700 was raised in just six months.

Welcome Back Fund sees series of family events planned across Rossendale

Local councils across the country received money from the government earlier in the year to help assist in attracting people back to our high streets after the challenges of the last eighteen months.

Visitor hot spots helping to highlight new South Pennines Park

Areas within the new South Pennines Park are singing from the same hymn sheet – as stencilled lyrics have started to appear to visitor hot spots.

So far, the blue ‘graffiti’ featuring the final verse of the song ‘Chimneys, Moors and Me’ by folk due O’Hooley and Tidow has appeared outside the Kala Sangam Arts Centre in Bradford, Sunnyhurst Woods in Darwen, Bacup town centre in Rossendale and Towneley Park in Burnley – all areas within the new South Pennines Park.
