You can have your say on plans to encourage more people to walk and cycle for everyday and leisure journeys in Lancashire.
Lancashire County Council and partners are developing a draft Cycling and Walking Strategy for Lancashire, which also covers the neighbouring areas of Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool. The strategy will shape local spending priorities aimed at developing Lancashire’s walking and cycling offer over the next ten years, building on the range of high quality walking and cycling routes which already offer excellent access to the county’s towns and cities and beautiful rural landscape.

Rossendale Leisure Trust reports super school stats in its end of year report for the Rossendale School Sports Partnership.
The Leisure Trust continues to grow and the latest stats from the school sports partnership, run alongside the games organiser at Fearns School (Nathan Bibby), shows that it is now in England’s top 10 based on Schools Games Key Performance Indicators.

Saturday March 4th will see the grand opening of the eagerly awaiting pump track in Stubbylee Park as part of the regeneration masterplan.
The event will take place 12noon-3pm on Saturday March 3rd where people can ride the track for the very first time.
Bikes will be available to use and advice given by those who constructed the track, as well as refreshments.

Breweries are being invited to put forward a proposal to brew an official Pennine Way beer!
The Pennine Way is Britain’s oldest National Trail and undoubtedly its best known walking route. Over the past 50 years people have been embarking on this 268 mile journey along the spine of England, from Edale in Derbyshire to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders.

Pump Track work starts to take place to progress the Masterplan
As part of the Stubbylee Masterplan, we carried out consultation in April 2016 as we looked to develop the Pump Track project. This is basically a bike track made out of moulded earth that is used to develop Rider’s skills.

The Friends of Acre Village have been awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery for their Interpreting Acre Project. The group is working with Proffitts, Lancashire County Council and Rossendale Borough Council with the aim of obtaining funding to preserve, restore and interpret the history of this interesting Victorian Village.

The Council has appointed White Young Green (WYG) to prepare a Town Centre, Retail, Leisure and Tourism Study.
As part of this study a telephone survey has been commissioned which will be asking questions about retail, leisure, town centre and tourism related issues within Rossendale. This will form part of the Evidence Base that will be used in preparing the Local Plan.

Rawtenstall Christmas Market and Lights Switch On – Saturday 26 November.
There will be a magical Christmas Market on the Town Square in Rawtenstall on Saturday 26 November featuring over 50 stalls selling handmade artisan products, street food, farmers market produce, gifts and clothing. The market, which is open from 11am through to 8pm, is organised by Mark Smith, organiser of the Rawtenstall Farmers Market, Jane Boys, organiser of The Clog Market, and Danny Solazzo, owner of Artisan, supported by Rossendale Borough Council.
