Historic England give listed status to Weir War Memorial.
The Secretary of State for Culture Media & Sport has added Weir War Memorial to the list of buildings of Special Architectural or Historic interest and has been granted Grade II listed status.
The announcement was made in time for Armistice Day and the Remembrance weekend, a special service was held at the memorial on Friday November 11th.

On Thursday 10 November, Blackburn Cathedral, the Cathedral of Lancashire was a stunning venue for Marketing Lancashire’s annual Lancashire Tourism Awards, supported by host sponsors Blackburn with Darwen Council and headline sponsor University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).
Award-winning journalist and broadcaster Bill Turnbull was guest presenter, entertaining the audience and guiding the event masterfully through eighteen awards.

Double Paralympic silver medallist Tom Hamer was the special guest at Rossendale Leisure Trust’s ‘Celebration of sport’ event at the Riverside, Whitworth.
The event, which took place on Friday 21st October, was part of the Trusts annual acknowledgement of sport in the Valley.
The evening played host to a variety of achievers including teachers and children from Thorn primary school, Ski Rossendale, fundraisers for Rossendale Hospice Vikki Hardwick and Richard Watts, promising badminton player Akshay Narayan and Whitworth Water Ski Academy.

Rossendale residents are in for a locomotive treat this week as the famous Flying Scotsman returns to the East Lancashire Railway as part of the Scotsman In Steam event.
The Flying Scotsman visited Rawtenstall in January this year, following its £4.2m restoration at Riley and Sons Ltd in Bury, to huge crowds.

Ski Rossendale is working towards becoming a centre for the new and totally unique reduced risk training centre for our British Park and Pipe freestyle squads.
Should this further development reach final approval funding for the project will come from Sport England.
A Planning application has been submitted to Rossendale Borough Council for the specific requirements.

Latest tourism data from Visit Lancashire shows Rossendale’s tourism offer is appealing to even more people and continuing its upward trend.
The latest data, for 2015, shows that Rossendale saw over 1.3million tourism visits to the area, increasing 2% on last year, outpacing average growth of 1.7% (64.38m visits) across Lancashire as a whole.

Double Paralympic silver medallist Tom Hamer has officially opened a new £30,000 climbing area in Rossendale.
After cutting the ribbon, the 18 year-old, who took home silver medals in the S14 200m freestyle and SM14 200m individual medley in Swimming at Rio, was the first visitor to scale the wall at Grip & Go in Haslingden on Saturday.

Following the success of the Heritage Open Day last year, Valley Heritage and Rossendale Borough Council are pleased to announce that Stubbylee Hall in Bacup will be open to the public again this year. This event will be Sunday 11th September between 11am and 2pm. Access to the Hall will be via guided tours of 15 people, available to book on the day.

The Mayor of Rossendale, Cllr Granville Morris, officially opened the new outdoor gym which has been installed in Victoria Park in Haslingden.
The gym features 6 pieces of state of the art equipment, designed to exercise different parts of the body to provide a full workout. It is located at the end of the path by the main entrance, overlooking the lower part of the park with fantastic views of the surrounding hills.
