A logo created by a pupil at Fearns Community Sports College in Stacksteads will be seen by thousands of people.

Rossendale Council asked the pupils to design a logo to promote Rossendale Works – a careers, employability and skills fair being organised at Haslingden Sports Centre on July 10.

Holly Duffy’s design features the words Rossendale Works in a circle and inside is a head with cogs inside the brain.

She said:

I thought about Rossendale Works and thought that sounded like cogs making something work and then thought about putting those cogs inside someone’s brain.

I used the colours of blue and green because they are the colours of Rossendale, the hills and the rivers

In the long term I would like to be a tattoo artist, but first I am applying for Bury College and Burnley College to study art.

Leader of Rossendale Council, Councillor Alyson Barnes said:

Holly’s design was simple but very striking and I would like to thank her for taking the time to put it together.

I hope she will come along on the day and be a part of the opening ceremony for the fair.

Holly’s design has now been made into a digital logo and will be used on all publicity material, promotional banners and literature produced to support July’s event.

The runner up was a design created by Fearns pupils Elleina Pickup, 12, and Charleigh Pilling, 13.

The skills and employability fair will introduce local high school pupils to a range of over 60 Rossendale employers displaying interactive activities to really showcase what they do.

It is hoped that pupils from all seven local high schools will attend between 9am and 2pm.

From 2pm until 5pm, the fair will be open to the general public and there will be specific workshops including CV writing, a Linked In session, preparing for an interview as well as engaging with employers and providers.
