The end of the year is approaching so I wanted to reflect on the last year and also look forward to 2019.
In many ways, it’s been a tough year for the Council but we have achieved a lot and I hope many people agree with me that the borough is in a better shape than it was at the start of the year.

Visitors to Rawtenstall town centre will find it easier to get around and discover things to do thanks to refurbished signposts.
The town’s eight traditional fingerposts, which point to popular attractions such as the ski slope, the shops and the market, have been refurbished. They were in a poor state of repair with some fingers pointing the wrong way or to places which no longer exist, illegible text and missing fingers.

The traditional fingerposts in Rawtenstall town centre are to be refurbished and three new posts installed.
The town has eight of the cast iron signposts which direct people to attractions such as the East Lancashire Railway (ELR), the ski slope, shops, the market and other tourist attractions.
But some posts are in a poor state of repair with fingers pointing the wrong way or to places that no longer exist, broken fingers and illegible text.

Rossendale Borough Council has granted planning permission for Phase two of the Spinning Point development.
A full planning application, for the redevelopment of the former Valley Centre site, was submitted by Rossendale Borough Council and Barnfield Investment Properties in December 2017.
Significant community consultation has taken place since December, with members of the public encouraged to view and comment on the proposals during three public information events, a’Facebook Live’ consultation; and presentations to local groups, Rawtenstall Chamber of Commerce and Rossendale Civic Trust.

Thursday’s usual trading day on Rawtenstall Market was like no other…a hero was named live on ITV!
Jack Buckley was surprised by ITV’s Jake Quickenden at Rawtenstall Market has he was named a Kelly’s Hero live on the Lorraine Kelly Show.
Just over a year ago, Jack, a plumber from Rossendale, took the brave and risky decision to and be a live donor for close family friend Pat Foden-Purser who needed the life-saving liver surgery after being diagnosed with polycystic liver disease 14 years ago.

Plans for Rawtenstall’s new £5.4million Spinning Point masterplan have gone into top gear as funding was approved.
The Local Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) Board and Lancashire County Council (LCC) have now both formally approved the Rossendale Together Barnfield Partnership’s £1.9million bid to the Local Growth Fund and the £3.5million Lancashire County Council funding.
