Take part in travelling the virtual mile

Rossendale residents are being encouraged to get out and with run or walk a mile as part of a two-week health challenge.

This week should have been one of the borough’s biggest fitness events of the year – the primary school cross country championships.

Sadly, the event has been postponed because of the on-going coronavirus emergency but the organisers are challenging the borough to part in a virtual mile competition instead.

Have your say on walks around the borough

A special walking summit is being held to let people give their views on how to boost walking activities in Rossendale.

Rossendale’s Together an Active Future project is looking at how to encourage a more active community and want your input on making it easier for people.

It is hosting a walking summit on Wednesday, February 27th at The Riverside in Whitworth, OL12 8DP.

Council welcomes leisure partnership announcement

Rossendale Council has welcomed news that Rossendale Leisure Trust and Community Leisure Association of Whitworth have agreed a new partnership.

Councillor Alyson Barnes, leader of the Council, said:

“We welcome this announcement and look forward to continue to work with both organisations. We will continue to support the partnership by providing back office assistance such as payroll, IT and transaction services.”

Miles and miles of fun

Pupils, council workers and members of the public in Rossendale literally went the extra mile to help take Lancashire around the world.

They took part in the Your Mile Your Way Challenge to complete a mile any way they could – from walking, running, swimming and cycling to dancing or even hula hooping.

Help take Lancashire around the world

People in Rossendale are being encouraged to run, hop, skip, bounce, cycle, skate, swim or even cartwheel for a mile on Friday (May 18).

The aim is to get at least 24,901 people in Lancashire to take part in Your Mile Your Way challenge – and complete the amount of miles it would take to travel around the world.
