Free training on food allergies

Food and drink businesses in Rossendale are being invited to attend a free training course on food allergies.

Rossendale Council is hosting the two-hour long sessions in the Council Chamber at Futures Park, Bacup.

Delivered by environmental health officers, the sessions are designed to give Rossendale businesses confidence and reassurance when it comes to serving customers.

Crackdown on Rossendale law breakers

Rossendale Council’s public protection team has successfully brought prosecutions against several people accused of various crimes recently.

Two residents were prosecuted and fined for abandoning cars in Rossendale in separate incidents.

Daniel Barry of Crawshawbooth and Lauren Anderson of Whitworth were found guilty in their absence at Burnley Magistrates and were ordered to pay over £1,000 each.

Rossendale ready for Christmas as the borough lights up

Christmas lights are switching on all over Rossendale with family friendly fun for all.

In Rawtenstall, Saturday, November 24th will see the town’s lights switch on at the Christmas Clog Market on the Town Square.

The market will take place between 10am and 5pm with artisan stalls, brass band, community choir and food and drink, and the lights switch on takes place at 5pm.

Popular mountain biking event returns to Rossendale this weekend

A popular free mountain biking event is returning to Rossendale this weekend promising some high octane thrills and spills in the heart of the borough.

The Hope/PMBA Series Enduro Finale is set to take over the Lee Quarry Mountain Bike Trail in Bacup on Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 from 9-6pm both days.

Local Plan update: map published

Following requests from residents Rossendale Council has published a map of the proposed allocation of a stopover site for Travellers at Futures Park in Bacup.

The Leader of Rossendale Council, Councillor Alyson Barnes, has this week written to the Government to seek clarification on the legislation requiring all Councils to identify what traveller sites are needed across Local Authority areas as part of the production of a Local Plan.

Former takeaway owner fined for health and safety breach

A former Rossendale takeaway owner has been fined for a breach of health and safety.

Mr Mendi Khan of Edith Street, Blackburn appeared at Burnley Magistrates Court on Friday, February 9 to answer two charges under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

An inspection at his takeaway premises in March 2017 identified that one of Mr Khan’s employees was using a dangerous piece of equipment without adequate guarding.

Exciting plans for next phase of Spinning Point released

Exciting plans on the future of Rawtenstall town centre have been released, which include new leisure and retail units, a hotel and attractive public space.

Following a planning application submission by Rossendale Borough Council and Barnfield Investment Properties in December 2017, the design team has enhanced the originally submitted scheme to address comments from consultees, including Historic England and local individuals.

Small grants available for farming businesses in Rossendale

Rossendale farmers are encouraged to apply for small grants from a scheme which supports investment for specific agricultural equipment.

The Countryside Productivity Small Grant Scheme provides cash for equipment that will help to improve animal welfare, resource efficiency or nutrient management.

Grants are available from £3k-£12k covering up to 40 per cent of eligible costs, however there is a need to act quickly as the deadline for online applications is March 14 ,2018.

New CGI image of Bacup public realm scheme released

A new computer generated image of what Bacup town centre could like in the future has been released.

The image shows what the proposed public realm improvement scheme for St James Square will look like from the view of a pedestrian.

The Bacup Townscape Heritage Initiative is a £2m investment in the town to restore its historic character.
