Snow update

Published February 28, 2018 at 12:54

Our waste collection crews worked hard this morning to get out and brave the elements to empty bins but unfortunately the wagons had to be pulled back to the depot due to heavy snow and worsening conditions. Collections have now been suspended.

We apologise for any inconvenience as this delay will affect the schedule for a number of days.

However, the Council has contingency arrangements in place to send out extra staff when conditions have improved sufficiently to enable safe access and will also remove any additional side waste left by residents.

Some of our staff are now assisting Lancashire County Council with snow clearing and gritting on pavements and town centres, with LCC responsible for gritting highways.

A Met Office yellow warning of snow remains in place for Rossendale throughout Wednesday with Police warning people to only travel if necessary. If you have to drive please stay safe and follow ROSPA’s winter driving tips

If you’re going out, remember to wrap up warm and take care on slippery surfaces.  If you have an older neighbour or relative, look out for them to make sure they are safe and well.
