In a new blog, Community Assets Standing Tall (CAST) trustee Carl Bradshaw tells us what the Rossendale Heritage Listing project is and how you can get involved.
The aim of this project is to afford some protection to the heritage assets in our communities by registering them on the Community Asset Register. To get these heritage assets onto the register they need to be nominated by the public in the local communities. If there is something special in your community, you don’t want to lose; NOMINATE IT.
Community Assets Standing Tall (CAST) have been awarded a grant from Heritage Lottery Fund in order to facilitate public interest, education and arrange a nomination list to go on the Rossendale Community Asset Register or the Statutory Local List depending on which assets are nominated.
CAST have divided Rossendale into ten areas and the project team will spend six weeks in each area, delivering a drop-in community meeting where you can pick up more information on the project, along with a History and Heritage talk, and an Asset Management training workshop in each of the 10 areas over the two the years of the project.
The ten areas are as follows:
- Bacup
- Rawtenstall, Balladen and Townsend Fold
- Haslingden, Acre, Sherfin, Rising Bridge and Stonefold
- Crawshawbooth, Goodshaw and Loveclough
- Weir, Broadclough and Sharneyford
- Whitworth, Shawforth and Britannia
- Stacksteads, Waterfoot and Cowpe
- Helmshore, Irwell Vale and Bent Gate
- Newchurch and Cloughfold
- Edenfield, Stubbins, Turn Village, Chatterton and Strongsty
