Exciting work on Rawtenstall Town Square gets under way

Exciting plans to improve the town square area in Rawtenstall have been confirmed with an on-site start expected mid November.  

The scheme will see a much-improved area with new parks and garden space and a dedicated events area created. The plans follow on from the council’s earlier decision not to progress with future phases of Spinning Point in order to create a new public area.

Council update on future plans for Rawtenstall

Over the last few years, the Council with its partners have worked really hard to improve our town centres. This work has paid dividends especially in Rawtenstall.

In Rawtenstall, a lot has been delivered and it is clear there is a lot of positivity around the town.

Residents, visitors and businesses have fed back how good the town centre is looking, how the night time economy is booming and how great it is there is an influx of quality food and drink retailers.

Leader issues comment on Spinning Point

Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council, said:

Rossendale is a place on the up and Rawtenstall is a huge part of the exciting plans we have for the borough.

There is a buzz in the town with the market rejuvenation and the regeneration scheme at Spinning Point.

Ceremony marks progress on bus station

Partners signed the steel of the new Rawtenstall bus station to mark progress on the multi-million pound development.

Representatives from Rossendale Council, developers Barnfield and Transdev each took turns to leave goodwill messages on the frame of the new bus station.

Transdev has committed to using the new bus station.

Work on the station, funded by the Council, Lancashire County Council and the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership, is due to finish in early summer.

Historic town hall officially re-opened after renovation works

The Deputy Leader of Rossendale Council, Cllr Christine Lamb, re-opened Rawtenstall’s renovated town hall last week.

New tenants, Together Housing, welcomed Council officials along with guests from the Rossendale Together Barnfield Partnership to attend the ribbon cutting and tour the building.

Together Housing will use the space to deliver important front-line services across Rossendale.

Council leader statement on parking in Rossendale

There has been a few concerns raised about parking in the borough over recent weeks.

Responding to the concerns, Council leader Alyson Barnes said:

“I fully understand concerns over parking in Rawtenstall and also the wider borough. Good availability of parking spaces is one of the key reasons people decide to come to a place and spend money and time in a centre.

Royal stamp of approval for Rawtenstall

The UK’s leading planning body toured Rawtenstall’s award-winning town centre developments.

Two senior members of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) visited the McDonald’s drive thru restaurant and Spinning Point.

Rossendale Council won the best practice award at the 2017 RTPI North West Awards for Planning Excellence for the McDonald’s development.

Former town hall opens its doors following restoration

People can have a look round the renovated Rawtenstall Town Hall.

The RTB Partnership is inviting members of the public to take a free tour of the building before it is handed over to housing provider Together Housing.

After lying empty for more than ten years, the former town hall has been restored to create modern office space in a stunning historic setting.

The council’s multi-million pound redevelopment of Rawtenstall has made the headlines.

A feature on the Spinning Point development appears on Place North West, the news website for property and regeneration professionals in the region.

Spinning Point includes the demolition of the former police station, the restoration of the town hall and a new bus station.
