Would you like to be consulted?

Rossendale Borough Council is inviting local people to apply to become a Standards Independent Person.  The Standards Independent Person is consulted on alleged breaches of the code of conduct for councillors, parish councillors and co-opted members.

The council has a duty to promote and maintain high standards of conduct by its elected members and co-opted members.  In March 2012 Rossendale Council agreed to appoint a person to this post, who could be consulted on standards matters. The advertised appointment would be effective from 1st July 2016 for up to a four year period.

You cannot be appointed an Independent Person if you are currently a member, co-opted member or an officer of Rossendale Borough Council or Whitworth Town Council or have been within the last five years, or you are a relative or close friend of such a person.  You should also be politically neutral to apply.

Although this is an unpaid role, travel expenses will be covered if attendance at standards related meetings is required.

Anyone who is interested in applying for this vacancy can request an application form as follows:

  • In writing to: The Committee and Member Services Manager, Rossendale Borough Council, Futures Park, Bacup, OL13 0BB
  • By telephone: 01706 252422
  • By email:  carolynsharples@rossendalebc.gov.uk

The appointment will be made by the Council following consideration of all the applications received.

The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 13th May 2016 and interviews will be held shortly after.

Anyone who would like to know more about this position should telephone the Committee and Member Services Manager, Mrs Carolyn Sharples, on 01706 252422.

Application packs can be found here.
