Rossendale Council has released the following statement regarding latest proposals on household waste recycling centres being considered by Lancashire County Council.
The proposal is for the centre in Haslingden to close two days a week and opening hours changed to 9am to 5pm.
Councillor Jackie Oakes, Portfolio Holder for Operations, said:
“We are very worried about this proposal. We are concerned that if this goes ahead, it will contribute to a rise in fly-tipping which we will then have to deal with.
We understand the county council is facing serious financial challenges but this proposal, if agreed, will create severe issues for us in Rossendale. We will be raising our concerns with our local county councillors, and hopefully they will ensure this proposal is dropped.”
