A 50-year-old man from Stockport has been found guilty of dumping a large amount of household rubbish under a motorway bridge in Rosebank, Edenfield, by Burnley Magistrates Court, following a case brought by Rossendale Borough Council.

Mr Lee Brooks of Oakside Close, Stockport, was found guilty of dumping rubbish on 27 July 2021 and ordered to pay costs as well as compensation at the court hearing on 1 September 2022.

Mr Brooks was seen by witnesses and reported to Rossendale Council. Enforcement Officers from the Public Protection Unit then investigated the incident.

Mr Brooks was ordered to pay a £300 fine, £40 victim surcharge, £1000 in legal costs and £1183 in removal costs.

Councillor Adrian Lythgoe said: “Operation Trident is helping us to successfully target incidences such as this. Tackling environmental crime is a key priority for the Council and we are committed to the fight against individuals who blight our Borough.

“Fly tipping damages the environment and is extremely time consuming and costly to investigate and clean up. We are pleased the prosecution was successful and hope it sends the message that we will pursue these individuals, wherever they live, and will not hesitate to take action against them.”
