Community event brings fun to Bacup this weekend

It’s fun for all at the free Bacup Community Weekend with great traditional activities.

Taking place on Saturday, 25th May at the AB&D Centre, St John’s Church and on Irwell Terrace, and Sunday, 26th May at Stubbylee Park, hall and greenhouses, the event offers something for everyone with a big range of activities.

Play area in Bacup to be transformed this summer

Moorlands play area is undergoing a £130,000 transformation.

The play area in Stubbylee Park will include fantastic new equipment including a jungle climber, five-way swing, scooter roundabout, music cottage, wizard’s hideaway and a cradle seat swing.

Rossendale Borough Council worked with Bacup Pride to secure £30,000 from Lancashire Environment Fund and £80,000 from Viridor for the project.

New hope for the long-term future of Stubbylee Hall

A local charity is to look at the future options for an historic Bacup hall.

Valley Heritage won the tender to work with Rossendale Council on a project to identify possible long-term uses for Stubbylee Hall and potential funding sources for improvements and restoration.

The Grade II listed hall in Stubbylee Park was built in 1808 for the Holt Family who lived there until 1911.

Get on your bike for off road thrills

Cyclists can test their off road skills at free taster sessions at the Stubbylee Park pump track.

Sessions take place at 4pm every Tuesday until the end of July. Bikes and helmets can be provided free of charge; participants need to bring a drink and wear suitable clothes and footwear.

Miles and miles of fun

Pupils, council workers and members of the public in Rossendale literally went the extra mile to help take Lancashire around the world.

They took part in the Your Mile Your Way Challenge to complete a mile any way they could – from walking, running, swimming and cycling to dancing or even hula hooping.

Help take Lancashire around the world

People in Rossendale are being encouraged to run, hop, skip, bounce, cycle, skate, swim or even cartwheel for a mile on Friday (May 18).

The aim is to get at least 24,901 people in Lancashire to take part in Your Mile Your Way challenge – and complete the amount of miles it would take to travel around the world.

Taster day at Stubbylee Park

Are you over 25, looking for work and living in Bacup?  Do you want to get outside and learn new skills?

If so you might be interested in a new environmental project called MyPlace starting this week at Stubbylee Park.

It will see participants attend weekly sessions at the park, getting involved in practical conservation, bushcraft, mindfuness and other nature activities.
