Unsolicited Door Knocking as Council

The Council has been made aware of an incident in Water where a gentleman has knocked on the door of an elderly gentleman claiming to be from the Council about fitting a new boiler. This person is not from the Council and is not working on behalf of the Council.

The man had no ID, didn’t provide a name or an contact number.

Residents are reminded to always ask to see a person’s ID badge to check that they are who they say they are. Do not let anyone into your home if you are not sure they are from the organisation they claim. Council employees will always be able to provide ID and give name or contact details.

St Vincent’s, one of the Council’s partners on Affordable Warmth, always call a person before they are due to make a visit, and it is usually because that resident has requested a visit. They do not make unsolicited calls to a person’s house.

The Cosy Homes in Lancashire (CHiL) scheme does not involve unsolicited visits to people’s properties, and anyone doing this is not connected with the CHiL scheme.

If you do have someone visiting you claiming to be from an organisation they are not you must inform Trading Standards on 0303 333 1111 or contact the Police.
