End in sight for traffic chaos on Rossendale road

Rossendale Borough Council has received notification from Lancashire County Council (LCC) that the rock fall on Bacup Road, Waterfoot, which has been causing severe delays in the area, will be cleared by September 2. 

Highways have now confirmed that a programme to repair the damaged section has been put in place and the vegetation growing through the remaining mesh will be removed.

Latest Civic Pride blog: a New Year clean-up!

2020 has started well for Civic Pride Rossendale (CPR).  Unable to attend the mass Rawtenstall clean up on New Year’s Day, one of our CPR volunteers was in Waterfoot centre at 7am on New Year’s Day to clear up the carnage from the previous evening!  Three hours later, the area was transformed as can be seen from the photos of the bus stop on Bacup Road.

Merry Christmas from the leader

The end of the year is approaching so I wanted to reflect on the last year and also look forward to 2019.

In many ways, it’s been a tough year for the Council but we have achieved a lot and I hope many people agree with me that the borough is in a better shape than it was at the start of the year.

Theatre company pulls Rossendale’s creative strings

Horse and Bamboo are the first Rossendale organisation to be featured in a series of short videos about creative people in the valley.

The theatre company is well known for its experimental and forward thinking productions that often use puppetry to tell stories and to move its audiences.

Founded in 1978, the company’s home is the Boo in Waterfoot, which also hosts comedy nights, live music, children’s entertainment and festivals.

Transformation of Waterfoot Town Centre

A new community space is steadily taking shape on the site of the former basketball courts in Waterfoot Centre.

Pupils from the Green Team at Waterfoot Primary School came down to site to take a closer look this week. They will be working alongside artist Alastair Price and Proffitts – Investing in Communities to learn more about the history of Waterfoot and of this site itself and turn their ideas into beautiful and unique designs which will be interpreted into permanent artwork for the site.

Improvements to Waterfoot Centre

Rossendale Council unveils proposed plans for improvements to Waterfoot Centre.

Following the building of the new residential development, Whitwell Court, Rossendale Council has made funding available to improve the adjacent public space and car park area.

A public consultation exercise was undertaken in 2015 to find out how local residents would like the area to be improved and what features they would like incorporating into the plans.
